When you are looking for custom engraved backlit switches and there are not available on the market [in reasonable quantities] - DIY comes into play.
The requirements for the switches were quiet high - multi color, backlight and momentary action. As mentioned, they symbols and switches that we were looking for were not commercially available.
We started with "ceramic" RGB colored switches from Schurter in the correct diameter to fit the holes that were already used before by different switches. We added some additional holes in the beautiful carbon plate of the helm station.
And even more holes on the second plate.
Than there was some try & error to figure out the best painting, distances & tool passes as well symbols.
The tests start to be successful:
And let's start the "mass production" in the Aft cockpit and fill all those holes...
The result is stunning, after some more programming [Arduino magic] and soldering wires on the backs of the switches, they were ready to get installed for real.
