DIY - CNC cut out in Carbon Bracket

Our Stepcraft CNC comes in handy for different projects.


The yacht gets fitted with a new hydraulic set up. The carbon brackets to hold on of the new hydraulic rams in place, had been build in prepreg carbon by a professional boatbuilder. When it came to install it, this had to be on site. The hydraulic ram will take a lot of load and therefore the fit inside the bracket had to be perfect. Precision is the key and a hole of precise diameter and a cut out to fit the ram shaft had to be cut. We were missing the right size "hole saw" and other heavy duty tools to make the modifications to the brackets on site. So the CNC was the perfect option to take over this job.


The brackets have been clamped on the cnc table and the shape programmed on the computer. The router cut through the layers on solid carbon easily and almost no carbon dust with the vacuum cleaner attached to it.
